More information.

Crypto Camp is an immersive overnight educational experience organized by the Aaron Swartz Institute in São José do Alegre, Minas Gerais, Brazil, as part of Global Encryption Day 2026.

Bringing together approximately 60 participants, including rural families, children, teenagers, educators, agricultural extension workers, community leaders, and representatives of the Internet Society Brazil Chapter, the event promotes awareness of encryption, digital privacy, cybersecurity, and Internet governance through hands-on workshops, interactive simulations, collaborative challenges, and educational games.

Inspired by hacker culture and community-based learning, Crypto Camp combines practical activities on cryptography, secure communications, Internet infrastructure, and digital rights with an evening campfire discussion and an immersive escape-room challenge. The initiative aims to make complex technical concepts accessible to diverse audiences, encourage the adoption of safer digital practices, and empower participants to share their knowledge within their communities.

By connecting technology, education, and rural communities, Crypto Camp seeks to strengthen digital resilience and promote a more open, secure, and inclusive Internet.
