How does encryption protect people in their everyday lives? And why is strong encryption essential to safeguarding human rights, privacy, and security online?
As part of Global Encryption Day 2026, IRIS – Institute for Research on Internet and Society invites you to a public webinar exploring how end-to-end encryption protects people, communities, and fundamental rights.
Bringing together perspectives from journalism, civil society, and digital rights advocacy, the discussion will explore three key contexts in which encryption plays a vital role: protecting children and adolescents in digital environments, safeguarding journalists and their sources, and supporting the safety of people experiencing domestic and sexual violence, stalking, human trafficking, and other forms of technology-facilitated violence.
Based on three policy briefs recently translated into Portuguese, the webinar will connect technical concepts to real-world experiences, showing why secure private communications matter and how weakening encryption can put individuals and communities at risk.
The webinar will be in portuguese.
