In an era of increasing cyber threats and data breaches, encryption is a cornerstone of digital security, protecting privacy, securing communications, and fostering trust in online systems. However, limited awareness and understanding of encryption, coupled with debates over government policies, pose challenges to its adoption and defense.

The Internet Society Kenya proposes a one-day workshop, Encryption Day, to educate stakeholders, advocate for strong encryption, and address the Government of Kenya’s perspectives on encryption.
The Encryption Day workshop aims to:
1. Explain Technical Details: Demystify the technical aspects of encryption for diverse audiences, including policymakers, technologists, and the public.
2. Raise Awareness: Highlight the importance of end-to-end encryption in safeguarding privacy, securing data, and enabling secure communication.
3. Advocate for Strong Encryption: Promote policies and practices that support robust encryption standards without backdoors or vulnerabilities.
3. Defend Encryption: Equip participants with strategies to advocate for encryption in the face of regulatory or societal pushback.
4. Understand Government Perspectives: Explore the Government of Kenya’s stance on encryption, fostering dialogue between stakeholders and policymakers.
