To mark Global Encryption Day 2025, Webfala Digital Skills for all Initiative will host a one-day, in-person training workshop titled Defending Digital Privacy: A One-Day Training on End-to-End Encryption in Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria. The workshop will bring together journalists, human rights defenders, tech enthusiasts, policy advocates, students, and small business owners to deepen their understanding of end-to-end encryption (E2EE) and its critical role in safeguarding privacy, free expression, and digital security. Through interactive sessions, expert-led presentations, and practical demonstrations, participants will learn how E2EE works, explore its applications in daily life and professional contexts, and gain hands-on experience using secure communication tools such as Signal, ProtonMail, and encrypted file storage solutions.

Beyond technical skills, the workshop will address the growing threats to encryption posed by government surveillance policies, corporate practices, and cybercriminal activities. Participants will engage in group exercises to design advocacy strategies, craft public awareness messages, and join the Protect Encryption Pledge – committing to champion strong encryption within their networks. This initiative aims not only to empower individuals with digital safety skills but also to foster a community of local advocates capable of influencing policy and public opinion in Nigeria. By equipping participants with both knowledge and action plans, the event will contribute to the global movement to defend and strengthen encryption as a fundamental pillar of digital rights.

Purpose:
To celebrate Global Encryption Day 2025 by equipping participants with practical skills, knowledge, and advocacy tools to protect and promote end-to-end encryption (E2EE) in Nigeria.
