Theme: Encryption for All – Building Student Advocates for a Safe & Secure Internet”
In recognition of Global Encryption Day (21 October), the Internet Society Tanzania Chapter will host a high-impact awareness workshop targeting university and college students across Tanzania. This event is part of the global initiative led by the Global Encryption Coalition to defend and promote the use of strong encryption as a cornerstone of digital safety, privacy, and freedom.
Purpose of the Event
The workshop aims to equip students with a deep understanding of encryption, its role in safeguarding privacy and freedom of expression, and the global threats that seek to undermine it. Participants will gain technical insights, advocacy tools, and practical skills to champion encryption as a public good.
Goals
• Raise awareness among Tanzanian College/University youth about the critical importance of encryption in the digital age.
• Train and empower 30 student advocates to lead grassroots awareness campaigns on their campuses and beyond.
• Build a network of young digital rights defenders who can communicate the value of encryption to their peers, communities, and future leaders.
• Contribute to the global momentum for protecting end-to-end encryption and resisting policies that seek to weaken it.
This event will combine expert presentations, policy discussion breakouts, and team advocacy challenges—all culminating in the selection of 30 student leaders as official “Encryption Advocates.”
Together, we’re securing the internet—one student at a time.
