Hosted by the Aaron Swartz Institute (IASW) with support from the Internet Society Foundation and the Internet Society Brazil Chapter, this escape room invites children and teenagers to explore the power of encryption through play and collaboration. Set in the year 2035, players join the cyberactivist group “Open Library” to recover a digital key created by Aaron Swartz – their only chance to restore free access to knowledge after the fictional corporation BlackVault locks it behind paywalls. Through solving puzzles inspired by basic cryptography concepts, participants experience the values of freedom, knowledge sharing, and digital empowerment that Aaron Swartz championed.
